چکیده

Evaluations of advantages of Probabilistic Inductive Logic Programming (PILP) against ILP have not been conducted from a computational learning theory point of view. We propose a PILP framework, projection-based PILP, in which many-to-one projection functions are used to produce a “lossy” compression dataset from an ILP dataset. We present sample complexity results including conditions when projectionbased PILP needs less examples than PAC. We experimentally confirm the theoretical bounds for the projection-based PILP in the Blackjack domain using Cellist, a system which machine learns Probabilistic Logic Automata. In our experiments projection-based PILP shows lower predictive error than the theoretical bounds and achieves substantially lower predictive error than ILP. To the authors’ knowledge this is the first paper describing both a computer learning theory and related empirical results on an advantage of PILP against ILP.

Estimation-Based Search Space Traversal in PILP Environments

Probabilistic Inductive Logic Programming (PILP) systems extend ILP by allowing the world to be represented using probabilistic facts and rules, and by learning probabilistic theories that can be used to make predictions. However, such systems can be inefficient both due to the large search space inherited from the ILP algorithm and to the probabilistic evaluation needed whenever a new candidat...

Abductive Stochastic Logic Programs for Metabolic Network Inhibition Learning

We revisit an application developed originally using Inductive Logic Programming (ILP) by replacing the underlying Logic Program (LP) description with Stochastic Logic Programs (SLPs), one of the underlying Probabilistic ILP (PILP) frameworks. In both the ILP and PILP cases a mixture of abduction and induction are used. The abductive ILP approach used a variant of ILP for modelling inhibition i...
